Small Animal Medicine Position

The Ballarat Veterinary Practice requires a veterinarian to join 5 others in its Small Animal Department.  

This busy practice runs a well equipped clinic/hospital with including video endoscopy, MyLab 30 ultrasound, digital radiology, BAER testing, Doppler flow detector and surgical laser. We are also licensed to treat feline hyperthyroidism with radioactive iodine, and have a PennHIP accredited vet on staff. This is all backed up by two orthopaedic surgeons performing a wide range of procedures including plating, ESF and interlocking nails.

We also have a second clinic that runs as a stand alone practice except for sending major medical and surgical cases back to the main site.

The practice shares after hours with two others which reduces weekday on call to one day a fortnight. Weekend duty roster is one full weekend and two Saturday mornings in six.

We are looking for an experienced internal medicine clinician/specialist to help compliment our surgical skills, but would also consider a well motivated new graduate with an interest in medicine

The Ballarat Veterinary Practice is seeking FOUR (4) applicants for a 12 month internship in equine medicine, surgery and ambulatory practice. Applicants must be eligible to register as a Veterinary Surgeon in Victoria. The  positions commence in July 2011, August 2011, December 2011 and January 2012

 

The BVP Equine Clinic is adjacent to the Dowling Forest Racecourse and major racing stables. Approximately 300 horses are trained on course.

 

The hospital can accommodate 18 horses and is well set up for the examination and treatment of medical and surgical disorders. Equipment includes a surgery facility, scintigraphy unit, videoendoscopy, surgical laser, color flow doppler ultrasound and computed radiography. The hospital accepts referrals from veterinarians across Victoria as well as providing service to local racecourse horses and pleasure horses.

 

Dr Ian Fulton,B.V.Sc.,M.S.,M.A.C.V.S., and

Dr Brian Anderson, B.V.Sc., M.V.Sc. ,M.S., Diplomate .A.C.V.S., manage the in-house services of the clinic and there are five other veterinarians based at the site.

 

Experience and training in equine anaesthesia, lameness diagnosis, ultrasound, endoscopy, surgery, reproduction and emergency medicine will provide the intern with an excellent grounding in equine veterinary science. In addition, the opportunity for primary opinion case work with large animals is available when participating on the large animal after hours roster.

 

The internship package includes access to continuing education and remuneration consistent with the Veterinary Surgeons Award.

Equine Clinic   Nurse Manager

An exciting and rewarding position is available for a Team Leader/Nurse Manager.

BVPEC is one of Victoria’s largest Equine Clinic’s located on Dowling Forest Racecourse, in close proximity to major trainers and breeders. The Practice services primarily racing and pleasure horses and a mixed farming and domestic clientele.

The Equine Clinic can currently accommodate up to 28 inpatients and is well equipped with a surgical suite, computerised radiography, videoendoscopy, colour flow doppler ultrasonography, diode laser and a new gamma camera for scintigraphy studies, IDEXX and modern anaesthetic technology.

The Nurse Manager will be an experienced and qualified equine Veterinary Nurse, with surgical experience and management skills to lead a team of three nurses and five stable staff, plus casuals as required.

The manager’s responsibilities include equine nursing, staff development and performance, rostering, OH&S, development of procedures and protocols for sterilisation, surgery, stock procurement, equipment maintenance and communication.

This is a full time career position, offering excellent conditions and opportunities for advancement. The successful candidate would join a team of nine dedicated equine veterinarians, including two surgeons, two equine and two large animal veterinarians and three interns. The practice is actively recruiting additional practitioners to meet a growing demand, and expansion of facilities on site.
