Over a year ago Dental Radiography at Sturt Street We are very pleased to announce the installation of a dedicated dental xray and digital processing unit at our Sturt Street Clinic. This represents a great advancement in the high level of dentistry that we offer at the Ballarat Veterinary Practice. The xrays can taken while your pet is having dental treatment under anaesthetic. Xray film as small as 2cm x 4cm is placed inside the mouth against the teeth and produces high quality images of the entire tooth including of course the roots and jawbone. Imaging teeth with lesions/injury of the crown (the visible part of the tooth) is beneficial for a number of reasons. Latest research has shown that some teeth with cavities or other lesions need not always be extracted. In some cases not only can the roots be left in, but removal of them can cause more trauma to the jawbone. In other cases, extraction is the best course of action. Another advantage of radiography is in aged patients where there may be unseen jawbone thinning and risk of jaw fracture. This can be detected before tooth removal and appropriate action taken. To make these assessments and potentially save time and trauma during dental treatment, xray assessment of the roots of the affected teeth is essential. Of course with regular dental checks and cleaning as required, lesions can be prevented and if a routine scale and polish is all that is needed, radiography is not required. We will discuss the dental needs of your pet and all treatment options including xrays before any dental treatment is performed.
Over a year ago New Chief Operating Officer After 6 years of fantastic service Mr Michael Scarlett is leaving the practice for greener pastures. The Partners of the Ballarat Veterinary Practice are pleased to announce the commencement of Mr Paul Dempsey who will be the new Chief Operating Officer for the practice. He will officially start on Tuesday October 25 and will work with Michael for the following 2-3 weeks to “learn the ropes”. Welcome Paul and good luck Michael. We will be having a few “cups of tea” with Michael over the next few weeks to say thanks for a job well done and so long. In the mean time below you can read a little about our new man. Paul comes to BVP with over 15 years experience in senior management and leadership roles in the Agribusiness and retail sectors. With skills in general and operations management, Paul is a commercial business leader who adopts a pragmatic, hands-on approach. Originally from the Canberra region, much of Paul's experience has been gained throughout many areas of NSW including the New England, Hunter Valley and Southern NSW regions before moving to Ballarat nearly 10 years ago with his wife and family. Paul has a degree in Agriculture from the University of Western Sydney, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of New England and more recently has completed the Advanced Management Program through the University of Melbourne's Mt Eliza Business School. Paul is a keen local cricketer and self confessed DIYer and enjoys spending time with his family and staying fit with long distance running.
